NASCAR México Series Visited Puebla For Their Fourth Round

The Mexican top motorsport championship, NASCAR México Series, held it’s fourth round of the season at the Autódromo Miguel E. Abed, the first road-course visit in 2026.

Rookie from Texas, Helio Meza, stood his ground and captured his first win at the NASCAR México main series; Emiliano Richards fought his way to the front to reach his second win in a row.

Refuel

La Poblana 75 was the name of the event held at the track in Amozoc, Puebla. Xavi Razo started from pole position but was attacked immediately by Meza, who took the lead in the first corner of the race.

Razo responded quickly, upped his pace and returned to the top spot on lap 4, place he held until lap 20 on the 2.59 kilometer (1.6 miles) road course.

Pit strategy became prevalent once the first yellow flag waved; most of the field made their fuel-only pit stop while Razo, Eloy Falcón and Germán Quiroga stayed out.

Another yellow flag waved rapidly, meaning that the drivers that stopped early on pits cycled to the front when the remaining teams on track entered pits; Razo, Falcón waited to pit and disputed the Stage 1 win that favored the Alpha Racing driver.

Gerardo Rodríguez led the first 20 laps, followed by Giancarlo Vecchi on the NASCAR Challenge lead-board. The yellow flags, pit stops and restarts brought new contenders to the front: Richards add Víctor Barrales Jr added themselves to the fight for the Stage 1 win.

Vecchi jumped to the front and the last restart and received the green-white chequered flag followed by cars No. 20 and No. 48.

Range Anxiety

Razo and Falcón led the field into the final race segment but their reign was short lived as they still needed to made their fuel only pit stop.

Irwin Vences and José Luis Ramírez took over the lead battle followed by Meza, who advanced to the front by laps 65. The rookie driver from Alessandros Racing applied all his talent to build a gap from his rivals and head into his first win.

Meza’s luck changed with two laps remaining: a contact between Razo and Julio Rejón at the infield brought the yellow flag and produced a Green-White-Chequered restart.

The young Texan also had another worry: as he was one of the first drivers to stop for fuel, his tank was almost empty for the last laps, so an overtime restart complicated matters for him.

Another incident happened on the first attempt of overtime, extending the race more laps and putting more pressure on the drivers saving gas.

On the final and definitive restart, Meza defended the lead from attacks by Vences and Team GP Canel’s teamates Rubén García Jr and Max Gutiérrez. The No. 88 machine was first for a brief moment on turn 1 but the No. 27 responded and got back on top.

Meza secured his first win after 87 laps, holding Vences on the last lap; the Alessandros Racing car crossed the finish line 0.077 seconds over the stock No. 46.

“It was a tough race because of the overtime. I was really nervous on the last laps but we secured it. I even had a fuel hiccup on the last lap,” reckoned Meza after the race.

The NASCAR Challenge Series also had a dramatic ending.

Vecchi lead the race until lap 60, when he went off-track. Then Richards and Barrales Jr disputed the win.

The ANVI Motorsport No. 39 took the lead and distanced itself from the No. 20. Richards cut the difference and reached the back fender of his rival. Richards made the pass on the last lap and headed for his second win in a row.

Barrales Jr spun out in the infield, opening the door for Andrik Dimayuga to pass to the 2nd place. Rookie Mateo Girón closed the podium on 3rd; both cars, No. 67 and No. 05, advanced six spots on the last restart.

“You have to fight and put yourself on the right place as I did on today's race. We have two wins in a row and I don’t doubt that we can do it again on the next round,” commented Richards after the podium.

Clean Run

Roberto Espinosa dominated the fourth round of Trucks México Series; the Dynamic Motorsports driver led 32 laps on his way to his first win of the season.

Stage 1 was run on green flag all the way through. Espinosa led from Pole Position and was the first to make his mandatory tire change when pit lane opened on lap five. The No. 96 truck returned to the track and started to cut the time loss to get the Stage win.

The final segment of the race had three yellow flags. Espinosa didn’t flinched and held the top spot to the chequered flag.

“It got close at the end. We had a good advantage during the race, we knew we had a great Truck of the finish,” commented Espinosa about the restarts.

Sebastian Rodríguez, teammate of Espinosa, had a great participation getting to 2nd place. His luck changed on the final restart when Edwin Arenas punted him out of the track, negating Dynamic Motorsports a 1-2 finish.

Santiago Cruz finalized 2nd after a hard fought race. The Alessandros Racing driver started from the back, because of a technical infraction on qualifying, drove trough the field.
