NASCAR México Series Closed Double-Date At Yucatán

  • Rookie Mateo Girón grabbed his first win on NASCAR México.
  • Many Chase drivers suffered complications.

Mexican Top-Motorsport series, NASCAR México, had a new winner: Zacatecas born Mateo Girón claimed the general win and also from the Challenge division; the No.05 stepped up after a complicated Saturday and produced a drive from the ages.

Surprises

The Challenge division stole the limelight of the ‘Gran Premio Yucatán 200’. At the Starting Grid the Top-5 was occupied by the secondary division. Poleman Emiliano Richards led the way on Stage 1, followed closely by Girón.

Round 11 of NASCAR México had an unexpected turn two laps before Stage 1 finish: leader, car No. 20, stopped on track because of a gearbox issue. This situation complicated Richards' chances for the championship.

Girón took the lead and won Stage 1 followed by Gerardo ‘Chispa’ Rodríguez and Víctor Barrales on the Challenge division.

Xavi Razo climbed through the field to get the Stage win on the main series. Santiago Tovar and Abraham Calderón finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Stage 1 registered two DNF’s from Chase drivers: Eloy Falcón (lap 7) and Irwin Vences (lap 9), both lost ground on the championship standings.

The second half of the race was led all the way through by Mateo Girón. The rookie controlled four restarts, build a gap of seven seconds to Razo on his way to his first win on the Mexican stock car series.

Alessandros Racing took a 1-2 finish thanks to the mature drive of Girón and consistent performance by ‘Chispa’ Rodríguez., who became leader of the drivers championship heading to the final race.

“I’d like to thank all the team for their hard work. These have been tough races. We fell, and fell, and fell again but now we rise. Yesterday was rough (...) Today we changed our mindset”, Girón mentioned.

Razo fought back and recovered the top spot of NASCAR México on the final restart. This outcome means that the No. 7 driver jumped to the first place on the championship standings ahead of the series finale.

“It was a tough race. Personally I've had a few difficult weeks, I’d like to dedicate this win to my Mom. (...) This year it won’t slip us. We’ll take the championship, let's go!” said Razo after his second victory of the year.

Chase contenders were affected through the second half of the race: Alex de Alba went off-track and damaged his car; Rubén Rovelo fell on the order on the last restart.

Also, in the Challenge division: Regina Sirvent and Giancarlo Vecchi DNF’d after a multiple car incident, Andrik Dimayuga went off-track on the last corner and couldn't recover.

The Chase standings before NASCAR México Series finale are as it follows:

Confidence

Trucks México Series semifinal raced on Sunday morning at the Autódromo de Yucatán where the drivers that will fight for the drivers championship were chosen.

Once again, the Dynamic Motorsport drivers, poleman Sebastián Rodríguez and championship leader Roberto Espinosa, along with Jan Phillip Krüll were the main protagonists for the win.

Rodríguez led Stage 1 comfortably until a hiccup made him lose ground. Krüll inherited the top spot, went on to win the segment then led the rest of the way to earn the chequered flag after 33 laps.

The ANVI Motorsport No. 7 team had to repair their truck after Saturday's crash at the finish line. And their work paid off: Krüll built an 11 seconds gap to the No. 96 machine on the final laps.

“It was a tough race because I restarted various times on the outside lane. It was a very clean battle with Sebas (Rodríguez) and Bob (Espinosa). We’ll push on to Mexico City to take the win and championship,” added a tired Jan Phillip Krüll.

While Espinosa and Krüll left Yucatán on the top of the championship standings, their ‘Chase’ rivals had a forgettable race: Valeria Aranda didn’t show pace and later DNF’d. Rodríguez and Santiago Cruz ended up clashing, the No.9 truck was taken out and the No. 26 received a penalty. Carlos Novelo and Everardo Fonseca finished fifth and eighth, respectively.

NASCAR México Series final round is set: November 7th and 8th at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The 1 mile oval will define the 2026 champions of the main series, Challenge division and Trucks Mexico Series. Tickets are available here.
