NASCAR México Series Completed Round 5 At Aguascalientes

Mexican top motorsport series, NASCAR México, held its fifth round of the 2026 season at the Óvalo Aguascalientes México.

On this date current NASCAR México champion Alex de Alba, reached his first win of the year by performing an intelligent and safe drive; Jorge de la Parra also obtained his first win of the season on the Challenge division.

Clean Stage

The race, named Aguascalientes El Gigante De México 250, began with a long green-flag-run during the first Stage. Climate conditions were overcast all through the event.

Xavi Razo started from pole position led the field during the first 11 laps, then Germán Quiroga took the top spot.

Quiroga, driver and chief engineer of the No, 69 machine, set and increased the race pace building a big gap at the top, reaching and going through back-markers efficiently.

The first yellow flag waved at lap 52, allowing all the competitors to make their mandatory refuel pit stop; a group of cars entered on la 54. Quiroga made his stop a lap later, losing spots from those who entered a lap earlier.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Rejón stayed on the track and grabbed the first place spot at the Stage 1 finish (lap 70). The driver of the No. 95 stock held the lead over Helio Meza and Razo after the restart to reach the segment win.

Rookie Mateo Girón took over the lead from De la Parra and led the Challenge division during 54 laps. The Alessandros Racing driver didn’t stopped to refuel during the yellow flag period to try to get the Stage win, but his gamble didn’t pay out as he fell on the order at the restart.

Giancarlo Vecchi climbed up and managed to take the Stage 1 win, followed by Girón and Gerardo Rodríguez.

Rise and fall

The final segment of the race, scheduled for 100 laps at the Óvalo Aguascalientes México, was also run with a long green flag run; the race cautions held until the final portion of the Aguascalientes El Gigante De México 250.

After the non-competitive pit stop pause, Rodrigo Rejón resumed the lead of the race and stood firm until he stopped for his mandatory pit stop for fuel on lap 115.

Quiroga gained spots and took over the first place vacated by Rejón; this time the Car Motion Motor-Sport driver manged his pace at the top, keeping his rivals at a regular 2 seconds gap.

De Alba took over second place. The driver of the No. 14 machine rose through the field, found speed and kept chipping into Quiroga’s lead.

Caution flag waved at lap 145, when Max Gutiérrez had a crash at Turn 3; this moment changed the outcome of the evening.

The No. 69 restarted on first, but lose many spots; a few laps later it caused another caution because it presented a flat rear-left tire and spun out.

Alex de Alba benefited from Quiroga’s bad luck and grabbed the top spot; the AGA Racing Team car was followed by Rubén García Jr, Xavi Razo, Santiago Tovar and Irwin Vences into Overtime.

The No. 14 driver held his ground on the last restart, keeping the No. 88 car at bay; the gap at the finish line was 0.204 seconds from De Alba over García Jr. Vences completed the podium.

“I’m really happy! It was a very exciting race. We really needed a win,” said the Alba after the podium.

Vecchi, at the wheel of the No. 75 car, led the Challenge division at the start of the final segment but lose pace because of a mechanical issue; then the Girón took over until he had to make his fuel recharge.

Koke de la Parra became the new leader on lap 118 and held the spot until the chequered flag. The No. 29 driver increased his gap to the No. 20 from Emiliano Richards on the green-flag run and managed to stay first on the last restarts taking the win with a 0.526 seconds difference.

Only three cars from the Challenge division finished on the lead lap. Andrik Dimayuga grabbed the last podium step.

Two in-a-row

Trucks México drivers were the first ones on action at the Óvalo Aguascalientes México on Sunday morning to complete the fifth round of the series.

Roberto Espinosa charged to the lead during the first 20 laps and made it work. The Truck No. 96 driver had a stand-out performance taking Stages 1 and 2 wins and his second victory in-a-row.

Gael Aguilar surprised the field on Saturday taking pole position. The No. 50 truck couldn’t hold Santiago Cruz for the lead at the start of the race.

On lap 2 already the race had a big moment that changed the outcome of the results because an accident involving trucks No. 09, 77, 17, 7, 11, 46 and 16.

On the restart lap a group of trucks, lead by Cruz, entered to pit lane for their mandatory tire change. Later on the race officials of the series deemed these stops as invalid —they had to stop after a green-flag lap— and asked teams to repeat their tire change.

Espinosa, who started from the 17th spot, headed to pit lane on lap 12; as he entered pit road the caution flag waved because of debris on track. This allowed the No. 96 to make his tire change and stay on the lead lap. Meanwhile, those who mad their pit stop earlier were trapped a lap down.

On the next restart the No. 96 grabbed the lead and stayed there until lap 30, the end of Stage 1. Then led the entirety of Stage 2 (lap 60).

On the final segment of the race Espinosa stood on the lead until Cruz mounted a late-race charge. The Alessandros Racing driver challenged the No. 96 a got on top but it was short-lived as the Dynamic Motorsports driver reacted to get the lead back.

A late caution meant the race was set up for an Overtime finish. Espinosa received help from his teammate, Sebastian Rodríguez, who pushed him at the restart to clear the lead. The No. 9 had contact on Turn 4, falling on the order to 6th. Aguilar finished on 2nd place and Cruz crossed the finish line 3rd but a penality issued to him —for his pit stop situation— dropped him out of the podium.

The 3rd spot was inherited by Everardo Fonseca.

“It was a very intense race! We started on 17th place, used a lot of patience. My team, Dynamic Motorspot, worked great and with help from my spotter we went one-by-one to the lead,” mentioned Espinosa after his win.

The next NASCAR México Series date is scheduled for May 27th when the Mexican stock car championship visits Autódromo de Querétaro for their sixth round of the 2026 season.
