NASCAR México Series Premiered Venue For The Tulum 100

The top Mexican motor sports series, NASCAR México Series made it’s first visit to Quintana Roo, site from their third round of the 2026 season.

The new track, a temporary 600 meters (0.37 miles) oval built at the Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Carrillo Puerto, delivered new winners: Eloy Falcón on the main series and rookie Emiliano Richards on NASCAR Challenge.

On this date, NASCAR México Series decided to separate their divisions because of the length of the track; the main series raced at the sunset and Challenge had their contest by the night.

Unexpected Winner

The Tulum 100 of the main division was affected by a large number of race interruptions, laps under yellow flag and damage to various protagonists.

Rubén Rovelo jumped rapidly to the top spot, the place where he spent most of the night. The Alessandros Racing driver hold station even during the many restarts that happened on Stage 1.

The first segment, scheduled to 100 laps, ended late and left almost no time to complete the full distance; Rovelo took the Stage win, followed by Germán Quiroga an Rodrigo Rejón.

The second segment was stopped, red flagged, just after five laps because of a multiple car accident that involved Alex de Alba, Jake Cossio, Max Gutiérrez, Santiago Tovar, Abraham Calderón and Carlos Novelo (who replaced Gray Gaulding after the American felt ill); this situation delayed the race more than 20 minutes.

NASCAR México decided to end the race —because of time constraints— and set for a final restart, which was controversial: Rovelo choose the outside lane and later returned to the inside lane before the green flag was waved.

Rovelo took the chequered flag, followed by Eloy Falcón, Rodrigo Rejón and Irwin Vences; after the race, officials from the series handed Rovelo of a penalty because of the restart violation; the stock No. 9 inherited the win, followed by cars No. 95 and No. 46.

The Rovelo situation meant the first win of Falcón, who started from last place.

“It was a weekend where we suffered a lot… it started with a crash that was my fault on the first practice,” reckoned the 21 year old driver who thanked his team, Alpha Racing, for rebuilding his car; he added: “We made an exceptional race. We didn't had the best car, we never gave up and gave it our all on the last laps.”

From Start To Finish

Emiliano Richards started from pole position and led every lap on the way to his first win on NASCAR Challenge Series.

The rookie driver from JV Motorsports imposed a frenetic pace during Stage 1; Victor Barrales Jr was the only one that could keep up with the No. 20 car, both separated from the rest with a gap of more than 10 seconds and lapped most of the field.

After a clean Stage 1, the second segment brought cautions and restarts; this gave opportunity to new contenders.

Richards, 22, kept himself cool through the restarts and brought his stock No. 20 to the Victory Lane. “I’m happy and thankful. The work we put in for this race benefited us a lot and we had a quality jump. I knew I could control the race and I did,” he said.

Giancarlo Vecchi was not a factor during Stage 1 but pushed hard on the second segment and climbed in the order to the 2nd spot. Rookie Mateo Girón finished 3rd.

Hunt

Track activity on Sunday was kicked-off by Trucks México Series. The Pick-Ups had an eventful evening that counted 12 yellow flags in the third round of their season.

Roberto Espinosa set the pace. the No. 96 truck started from pole position and led the first 97 laps of the race.

Even though Espinosa had the truck to beat he couldn't stop Carlos Novelo, who waited for his moment to pounce and took the top spot.

Novelo, on-board of the No. 18 of Escuderia Telmex, led the last 35 laps, contained the field at the last restart and built a 2 seconds gap to get his second victory in a row.

“It was a tough race. I struggled on the first laps, couldn’t find the right lane. At halfway I found the rhythm until I could overtake him,” said Novelo after his win.

Valeria Aranda took advantage on the last restart to reach the 2nd spot and got his third podium in a row. Espinosa had to toe the line with 3rd place.
