NASCAR México Series Debuted At The Autódromo Yucatán

- NASCAR México Series made their first trip to Yucatán.
- Alessandros Racing machinery led all the laps of the Sprint Race at the Autódromo de Yucatán.
For the first time in its history the Top Mexican motorsports series, NASCAR México, headed to Yucatán State. This round was set-up as a replacement for the postponed date at Monterrey (September 5th).
With rain around the area of the Autódromo de Yucatán, the ‘Aurora Networks - Ruckus Networks, Yucatán 120’ went ahead thanks to the use of wet weather tires.
Unexpected
Rain fell a few minutes before the start of Round 9. NASCAR México officials decided to make a quick five lap test so teams and drivers could familiarize themselves with the wet weather tires on the 3.34 kilometer (2 miles) - 14 corner racetrack.
Poleman Xavi Razo led the field to the green flag but his time at the first spot was short lived: rookie Mateo Girón —poleman of the Challenge division— grabbed the lead, place where he stood all the way through the 10 laps Stage 1.
Heat and humidity played a big factor to quickly dry the asphalt of the circuit. On lap 5 teams were allowed to change to slick tires. NASCAR México also had to act to solve another issue: sundown was approaching fast. Race officials decided to cut the race from 35 to 21 laps.
Girón grabbed the Stage win of the Challenge division. followed by Emiliano Richards and Gerardo ‘Chispa’ Rodríguez.
Rubén Rovelo took advantage of the careful-driving from his rivals —as they were saving their cars for Sunday’s race— to climb through the field and get Stage win.
The start of the final segment changed dramatically the outcome of the ‘Aurora Networks - Ruckus Networks, Yucatán 120’.
Veteran Rovelo mounted a charge to take the lead from his pupil Girón at the restart. Suddenly, stock No.05 slowed as it ran out of fuel and was out of contention.
Car No.28 led the remaining laps followed by Alex de Alba and Xavi Razo. The race finished after sunset, with no visibility left at the track.
This result catapulted Rovelo to 2nd spot on the Chase standings, just two points behind leader Rubén García Jr.
“Very happy with my 29th win. I owe my team and fans after Tulúm”, mentioned Rovelo on the finish line and added: “Every time we get to a new track I have good speed, today was no exception”.
Girón downfall benefited Emiliano Richards. The No.20 driver grabbed his fifth win of the season and took over the Chase points lead.‘Chispa’ Rodríguez finished 2nd and Víctor Barrales 3rd.
“Aguascalientes was a rough start to the Chase after our strong finish of the regular season. (...) I knew this was a date where we had to run at the front and we delivered.” said Richards.
NASCAR Méico Series and Challenge division 'Chase' stanfings were as it follows after Round 9:

Clashes
Trucks México Series was also present at the Autódromo de Yucatán with 20 laps filled with exciting moves.
Poleman Roberto Espinosa led the first laps until he slipped and lost time; his teammate, Sebastian Rodríguez took over the lead to earn the Stage 1 win.
The final Stage increased the intensity of the battles. Santiago Cruz grabbed the lead after a quick pit stop; the No. 26 truck had to defend from the No. 9 and both vehicles made contact. Espinosa avoided getting involved in said battle and managed to grab the lead.
With 5 laps to go the race had another dramatic change: Espinosa spun-out and Cruz couldn't avoid him, damaging the front of his truck and the back of No. 96.
Rookie Sebastián Rodríguez took over the lead and went on to grab his first win in the series.
And there was still more drama to come: the battle for the second spot got heated between Valeria Aranda and Jan Philipp Krüll. The No. 27 truck driver chased down the No. 7 on the final laps. Coming to the chequered flag, Krüll closed the inside lane, where Aranda was trying to pass him. Aranda turned Krüll into the pit wall and went on to claim second place.
“I yearned for a win like that. We tried for some time and it finally happened," said a relieved Rodriguez after his victory.
